The Accounting Department — which also includes an Accounting Manager, Accounting Specialist III, Accounting Specialist II and Accounting Specialist I — oversees an Agency budget of $22 million.

The department is responsible for all Agency fiscal matters, including accounting, budget performance evaluation, computer feed-in data compilation and payroll.

The Chief Financial Officer is supervised by the Chief Executive Officer.

  • To provide internal control for the handling of all monies;
  • To provide accountability of all receipts and disbursements on each individual grant;
  • To provide accounting data to meet the reporting requirements of each grantor;
  • To provide financial data to the Chief Executive Officer, SMILE Board of Directors and the Head Start/Early Head Start Policy Council for planning and controlling the operations of the Agency;
  • To provide data for supervisors in order that they may carry out the objectives of the grant; and
  • To provide financial statements together with the supporting books and records to financial examiners, both public and private.

The Accounting Department also ensures that all grants’ fiscal requirements are met.
