The three Community Action Centers, known as CACs, serve as focal points for the delivery of services in the parishes of St. Martin, Iberia and Lafayette. Each center is headed by a Parish Manager, who is assisted by a support staff and serves an advocate for the disadvantaged.
The CACs serve as hubs in their respective communities, providing a support mechanism that includes both services and referrals, and assists residents in achieving their goals in a quest for greater self-sufficiency.
The CACs provide a vast array of supportive services to promote independent living, including comprehensive housing counseling; emergency assistance; utility, rent/mortgage and medication assistance; distribution of clothing, food and hygiene products; transportation; and job placement and referrals. The CACs also assist persons in completing and filing Medicaid applications.
Each CAC has its own Council, composed of a cross-section of volunteers from the public, private and low-income sectors.
