SMILE CEO ANNOUNCES NEW BOARD MEMBER AMANDA MARTIN!

Lafayette Attorney Amanda Martin has been elected to the SMILE Board of Directors. She was elected to represent the Board's Low-Income Sector of Lafayette Parish.

Candidates did not have to meet low-income guidelines, but had to live within the community and advocate on residents' behalf.

Ms. Martin, a native of Lafayette Parish, made history by becoming the first African American and woman appointed as Chief Public Defender of the 15th Judicial District. She provides legal representation for indigent citizens of Lafayette, Acadia and Vermilion Parishes.

"We ask that you join us in welcoming Ms. Martin as a newly-elected Board member," said SMILE CEO Craig A. Mathews.

According to Mr. Mathews, Ms. Martin will be seated at an upcoming Board of Directors' meeting.

"We also thank the other candidates who demonstrated a strong commitment and willingness to serve our community by submitting an application to fill the Board vacancy," Mr. Mathews added.

According to Mr. Mathews, those candidates included Brenda Andrus, Kimberly Green, Jason Lewis and Ravis Martinez.

"We hope that they will consider reapplying for future vacancies that may occur on the SMILE Board of Directors," he added.
